Set in post-independence Senegal, Ça Twiste à Popenguine follows a group of teenagers in the coastal town of Popenguine as they navigate the growing influence of Western popular culture. Divided between rival cliques shaped by their musical allegiances, the youth move through desire, rivalry, and performance, revealing how identity is formed at the intersection of local traditions and imported cultural forms.
Part of Moussa Sène Absa’s wider exploration of postcolonial Senegal, the film foregrounds the subtle yet pervasive effects of cultural imperialism, as music, fashion, and everyday interactions become sites of negotiation and tension. Set in the director’s birthplace, Ça Twiste à Popenguine offers a vivid and rhythmically charged portrait of a society in transition, seen through the lens of a generation coming of age within it.
Doors open at 2.30pm; events starts at 3pm and finishes at 4.30pm.
