Technology & Power is a discussion series hosted by Dr Jaya Klara Brekke, gathering technologists, thinkers and activists at the forefront of our new technological realities.

Tech-authoritarianism is on the rise and can feel insurmountable: deinstalling an app feels like a futile act of resistance in the face of increasingly authoritarian, extremist and militarized dual use platforms. Can the tide be turned? Technology & Power 003 brings two eminent guests mobilising worker power and the law to drive change. Join to hear from ex-Google employee Vikram Subramanian and Rosa Curling, co-director of Foxglove, the tech justice group leading campaigns against Palantir, TikTok and more.

Doors open at 5.30pm; event starts at 6pm and finishes at 8pm.

Rosa Curling is the co-founder and co-executive director of Foxglove, a UK tech justice non-profit that fights to make technology work fairly for everyone. Over the past six years, Foxglove has forced the UK government to admit for the first time it was wrong in forcing through a new hyperscale data centre without proper checks to make sure it wouldn’t damage the environment; worked with openDemocracy during the pandemic to expose how US spy tech firm Palantir was secretly handed its first contract with the NHS; and launched the first lawsuits against TikTok’s union-busting of its key safety workers in London.

Vikram Subrmanian is an ex-Google Engineer who organizes with No Tech For Apartheid(NoTA) in Zurich. Vikram worked in BigTech for 20+ years and started organizing with NoTA in 2024 after learning about Project Nimbus, a contract signed by Google and Amazon to provide Cloud and AI services to the Israeli government and the IDF. Vikram left Google in 2025 but continues to organize Google and BigTech workers against Project Nimbus and militarization in tech in general.

Jaya Klara Brekke works on power and technology in theory and practice and is the curator of the Technology & Power series at Ibraaz. She writes and speaks on emerging technologies, their political economies and entanglement with our understandings of ourselves and others. She is Chief Strategy Officer at Nym, a decentralised privacy platform to enable digital integrity as a fundamental right and was awarded a PhD from Durham University for her thesis: ‘Disassembling the Trust Machine, three cuts on the political matter of blockchain’.
