Experimental Cartography Workshop with Moses März.
How do collaborations shape artistic creation, and how can we trace the relationships that sustain them?
This two-day workshop introduces experimental cartography as an artistic research method for mapping the collaborative networks behind artistic work. Moving beyond conventional academic approaches, where acknowledgements and bibliographies often obscure as much as they reveal, experimental cartography offers a visual and relational way of thinking through creative production.
As an artistic research method, experimental cartography offers an effective medium to trace and figure out some of the connections that generate and shape artistic work. Deriving from a desire to share knowledge in an intuitively accessible and inclusionary manner, it is a method that freely merges approaches from the visual arts, human sciences, storytelling and political activism.
Drawing on the relational philosophy of Édouard Glissant and Chimurenga’s “Method After Fela”, Moses März presents mapping as a practice that combines visual art, human sciences, storytelling and political thought.
Through presentations and practical exercises, participants will develop their own maps exploring the collaborative dimensions of writers, artists, musicians or filmmakers of their choice.
