Contemplation on the Divine: An Introduction to Silent Sufi Meditation

The School of Sufi Teaching

Date and Time:

Friday 13 Mar 2026, 6–8pm

Location:
Musalla

This gathering offers an introduction to silent Sufi meditation within the Naqshbandi Mujaddidi tradition, led by Dr Garry Doherty (Abdul Ghaffur). Rooted in a lineage that emphasises remembrance of the divine, the practice invites participants to explore a dimension of awareness beyond the visible and material, through disciplined attention and presence.

The evening will begin at sunset with the call to prayer (adhan) and a moment to break fast. A brief introduction will situate the practice within the broader intellectual and spiritual framework of Sufism, understood as a path of experiential knowledge that seeks to harmonise contemplation and lived reality.

This will be followed by approximately 45 minutes of silent meditation (muraqabah). In this form of practice, silence is not absence but attentiveness and a means of refining perception and cultivating inward receptivity.

Open to those of all backgrounds, the session offers an opportunity to encounter Sufi contemplative practice as a living tradition of knowledge, presence, and transformation.

Doors open at 5.30pm; event starts at 6pm and finishes at 8pm
