Autumn Opening

Join us to celebrate the opening of Ibraaz’s autumn programme of sonic and spatial interventions with Gabrielle Goliath's Elegy and the Earshot Library-in-Residence.

Through testimony and sonic inquiry, these exhibitions explore how sound, memories and evidence are gathered and listened to. 

Also on view are Taring Padi’s Rakyat Pasti Menang in the Majlis and Joe Namy’s Cosmic Breath in the Musalla.  

About Elegy:  

In the Minassa, Gabrielle Goliath’s Elegy gathers collective acts of mourning around lives and histories marked by violence, erasure and structural loss. Developed over more than a decade through encounters in Johannesburg, Cape Town, São Paulo, Paris and Amsterdam, the work brings together voices and moving images across eight funerary monoliths, moving between contexts including rape culture and femicide in South Africa, the genocide of Ovaherero and Nama peoples in Namibia, and the ongoing devastation of Palestinian life. 
 
About Earshot-Library-in-Residence: 

In the Iqra, Earshot-Library-in-Residence brings sound not as atmosphere, but as argument. Over nine months, the space becomes a site of sonic inquiry, where recordings are interrogated and listening becomes both exercise and method. From the Field, a multichannel audio experience drawn from Earshot’s eco-acoustic field recordings, plays alongside three listening stations presenting The Crack and the Boom, Authentic Audio and The Sonic Identikit. Together, they ask not only what a sound is, but how it is heard, by whom, through which technologies, and within what social, legal and political conditions.
