Huge Likeness: Ex-Soviet Archives

In 2009, a significant collection of 35mm and 16mm film reels were discovered in Amman, Jordan. Archival remnants of the former Soviet Cultural Centres that were once active in Amman, Cairo, and other cities in the region, the films included Soviet documentaries, militant newsreels, and early Palestinian agit-prop productions. Much like other Soviet-Arabic relics, the resurfacing of these archival materials illuminates the lasting impact of cultural exchange and the international networks of solidarity established during this period. This video work is part of a new series, titled Huge Likeness (2025–ongoing), where encounters with media artefacts unexpectedly reveals an unattended history related to publishing.
