the fall of the lion is a short film that follows artist Yara Said as she returns to her home country, Syria, for the first time after a decade in exile—just three days after the fall on December 8, 2024. Like many others, Yara had fled in her early twenties to escape the atrocities of the former regime.

The film captures the duality of this life-changing event and explores intuition as a vital survival tool, especially for women and femme bodies who have lived, and continue to live, on the margins. For this special event, she will perform a live score of the film as Noise Diva, featuring cellist Ramilda.

Doors open at 6.30pm; event starts at 7pm and ends at 8pm.

Yara Said is a visual artist and writer based in the Netherlands. Her practice moves across painting, sound, installation, and text, guided by long-form research and intuitive practices. Working with shifting materials and grounded in feminist thought, she draws on philosophies that value situated knowledge, ephemerality, and the unseen.

Writing is central to her process. Each project gathers visual, sonic, and philosophical material into constellations that resist simple narratives and open up spaces for reflection and refusal. Her work has been presented in exhibitions, public spaces, and digital platforms across Europe and the Middle East.

Ramilda is an Estonian cellist, improviser, and artist-producer based in London, primarily working in contemporary music; she is active as a free improviser and collaborator on London’s experimental music scene. Her debut EP 'Cracked' is due for release on the 29th of April under Scrawl World.

Over the past year, she has performed at London venues such as the Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, Sadler’s Wells, Somerset House and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. These include being a cellist in BULLYACHE’s WHO HURT YOU?, and as a dancer-cellist in choreographer Elisabeth Mulenga’s work Christ Alone. She has also performed in France and Belgium in Eddie Peake’s The Pervert.
