Riar Rizaldi and Tintin Wulia

- Date and Time:
Thu 12 Nov, 6–8pm
- Location:
- Majlis
In conversation with the third and final chapter of Taring Padi’s Rakyat Pasti Menang, Ibraaz screens two short films, curated in collaboration with May Adadol Ingawanij, which examine inheritances of exploitation in Indonesia and worldwide. Riar Rizaldi’s Notes from Gog Magog (2017) is a horror film and video essay which uses the forms of urban legends and ghost stories to dissect the profit-driven malfeasance of logistics companies. Focusing on the abuse felt by workers across all stages of transnational supply chains, Rizaldi imagines the office and the dock as portals to corporate culture’s sinister unconscious. Tintin Wulia’s A Thousand and One Martian Nights (2022) presents the filmmaker’s research into the 1965-66 Indonesian genocide through the stories of political prisoners sent to an internment camp on Mars in the not-so-distant future. Straddling documentary and narrative genres, Rizaldi and Wulia’s films draw on embodied experiences of violence while portraying, and critiquing, technologies of power.
Doors open at 5.30pm; event starts at 6pm and ends at 8pm.
