Phantom Orchestra is a large-scale sound performance by Lebanese artist and musician Raed Yassin. Known for his experimental use of double bass, electronics, and turntables, Yassin works across sound, performance, video, installation, and text to explore memory, loss, consumer culture, and the archive.
In Phantom Orchestra, Yassin recorded 42 improvising musicians individually and pressed each session onto custom vinyl dubplates. Using 12 turntables as instruments, he mixes, layers, and manipulates these recordings live, transforming isolated solos into a shifting, collective sonic experience. The spatial arrangement of turntables and speakers creates an immersive, multidimensional sound environment – conjuring a ‘phantom’ orchestra that exists only in the moment of performance.
Phantom Orchestra extends this practice into a haunting meditation on absence, collaboration, and the potential of music to build community beyond physical gathering.
Please note: Doors open 30 minutes before the event. If the event reaches capacity, a live stream will be available in our Minassa space, equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology.
