Global Majority as Idea and Practice

Between 2011–17, Ibraaz 1.0 published ten platforms that gathered responses to questions relevant to art and its wider geopolitical contexts. This October, Ibraaz Publishing will launch Platform 011.

Across essays, conversations, visual and sonic thinking, fiction, poetry, and moving image, Platform 011 takes as its central framing question: When does the term ‘Global Majority’ describe an existing condition, and when does it begin to produce one?  

To mark the launch, four contributors to 011 – Nadim Choufi, Maya Indira Ganesh, Shivangi Mariam Raj, and Shela Sheikh – will address the Global Majority as an idea and practice, testing the political and imaginative possibilities, tensions, and limitations embodied in the term and its various articulations. Speakers will consider what role art, organisational infrastructures, rapidly developing technologies, and publishing might play in producing new forms of transnational alliances and whether a Global Majority can be produced through tactical solidarities that neither erase difference nor retreat into performative affiliations. The conversation will be chaired by Anthony Downey.

Doors open at 3.30pm; event starts at 4pm and ends at 5.30pm.
