Moving between Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, this series reveals the violence of the plantation not as a relic of the past, but as a structure whose afterlives continue to shape the present. \u003C/p>\u003Cp style=\"margin-left:0px;\">\u003Cstrong>Honor Ford-Smith\u003C/strong> and \u003Cstrong>Harclyde Walcott\u003C/strong>'s\u003Ci> Sweet Sugar Rage \u003C/i>(1985) follows Sistren, a Jamaican women’s theatre collective, as they translate the lived experiences of rural and urban women into\u003Cu> \u003C/u>a collective political consciousness. Improvisation, roleplay and testimonies underpin dramatisations of these women's realities which expose the gendered realities of their labour under postcolonial capitalism. \u003C/p>\u003Cp style=\"margin-left:0px;\">As the first screening in \u003Ci>The Afterlives of Sugar, \u003C/i>this film\u003Ci> \u003C/i>exposes the organisation of labour as a manifestation of colonial exploitation.
