Her pathbreaking essays include Gender, Race and Class: Asian Women in Resistance for \u003Ci>The Empire Strikes Back: Race and Resistance in 70s Britain\u003C/i> (1982), Challenging Imperial Feminism (1984) with Valerie Amos for \u003Ci>Feminist Review \u003C/i>No. 17: Many Voices, One Chant: Black Feminist Perspectives, co-edited by Parmar with Valerie Amos, Gail Lewis and Amina Mama and the anthology \u003Ci>Charting the Journey: Writings by Black and Third World Women\u003C/i>, co-edited by Parmar with Shabnam Grewal, Jackie Kay, Liliane Landor and Gail Lewis in 1987. Her documentaries and feature films include Reframing Aids (1987), Memory Pictures (1989), the award-winning A Place of Rage (1991), Warrior Marks (1993), Nina’s Heavenly Delights (2006), Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth (2013) and My Name is Andrea (2022). In 2025, \u003Ci>Our Eyes as Commonly Tender: Visual Justice in the Filmmaking of Pratibha Parmar\u003C/i>, edited by Nydia Swaby, was published by ICA and Sming Sming Books.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>As curators and theorists, \u003Cstrong>The Otolith Collective\u003C/strong> has engaged in the conception, creation and convening of platforms that make public ongoing research. Throughout this practice runs a preoccupation with the essayistic as form and vehicle for thinking the aesthetic-political stakes of temporality and interscalarity.
