Namy’s work critically engages with the gender dynamics of bass, migration patterns of instruments, and the complexities of translation in all this – from language to language, from score to sound, from drum to dance. Ongoing projects by Namy focus on the history and resonance of opera houses across eleven countries in the SWANA region, and activations on the archive of pioneering electronic musician Halim El-Dabh. Namy is the founding director of BBS Community Radio and has held radio residencies on Radio Alhara, Clocktower Radio, and WNYU. \u003C/p>\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Sarah Hamed \u003C/strong>is a London based curator, editor, and producer. Joe Namy’s sound installation \u003Ci>Cosmic Breath\u003C/i> inaugurated the space. Originally commissioned for the 2023 Islamic Art Biennale in Jeddah by its artistic director and Ibraaz’s Resident Architect, Sumayya Vally, \u003Ci>Cosmic Breath\u003C/i> brings together recordings of the \u003Ci>adhan\u003C/i> (the Islamic call to prayer) from across different geographies and generations, which are played through horn speakers – the same speakers that are typically used by mosques to broadcast the call.\u003C/p>\u003Cp style=\"margin-left:0px;\">In this podcast, Namy and Sarah Hamed discuss the genesis and production of the work, as well as the significance of bringing the work to London during a time of rising Islamophobia.
